Tell Me Something Tuesday: Which Books Are You Looking Forward to Reading This Summer? (June-August)

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings in order to discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging (and some slightly more personal matters throw in for good measure). After Heidi stopped blogging (apparently for good), five of us took over as hosts while providing new questions. The current team is composed of Berls at Because Reading Is Better Than Real LifeJen at That's What I'm Talking AboutKaren at For What It's WorthLinda at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell and Roberta at Offbeat YA. This week's question is...

WHICH BOOKS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THIS SUMMER? (JUNE-AUGUST)

I don't know if I'll ever get around to buying all these books or when, since 1) early reviews and excerpts might cause me to change my mind in the future; 2) given my current situation (see: unemployment status), book money is scarce; 3) the number of summer books that piqued my interest is staggering (SEVENTEEN!!!). On the other hand, as I'm posting this, I've had the chance to read six of these novels in ARC form, which is a respectable amount - more than one third of them. Also, there's one that I'm on the fence about already, and another one that I listed because I got the chance to do an authenticity read for it and I thought I'd give it a shoutout, but it's not really my scene. Anyhow, I wanted to give a bit of exposure to all the summer books that caught my eye, so here's my list (complete with pub dates)...

Tell Me Something Tuesday Round-Up (April 2026)

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings in order to discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging (and some slightly more personal matters throw in for good measure). After Heidi stopped blogging (apparently for good), five of us took over as hosts while providing new questions. This week's question is... This time I'm doing a round-up of the last month's worth of questions, because I hate how I've been M.I.A. when it comes to the meme!

April 2026 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SPORTS TEAM?

  • April 7th: Do you like spoilers? Do you read the last chapter first?
Uh, nope. I'm a rereader, so I can enjoy books that I already know the ending of, but the first time around? No thanks.

Tell Me Something Tuesday Round-Up (March 2026)

This time I'm doing a round-up of the last month's worth of questions, because I hate how I've been M.I.A. when it comes to the meme!

March 2026 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE COLOUR?

  • March 3rd: Which made-up thing do you badly wish was real? (a question I submitted)
She looks a bit grey here for some reason, but whatever - when she doesn't choose to dematerialise and rematerialise, the TARDIS knows how to make an entrance 😂.*
*(In case you're wondering...to the Doctor, the TARDIS is a she! And yes, she's sentient).

  • March 10th: If you could have any celebrity be your best friend, who would you pick? (a question I submitted)
I know I'm sounding like a broken record (see above), but...David Tennant isn't just my favourite Doctor and actor. He's a decent human being with his heart in the right place (you can tell by the way he interacts with his fans, the causes he supports...I've yet to hear a single bad word against him) and an infectious smile. I would be honoured and elated to be his friend, though there might be a tiny problem with that...I've got a crush on him, so maybe not a good idea 😅.

David as Peter Vincent in Fright Night, 2011 😂 - actually, his underwear wasn't so noticeable in the movie, but someone took great pains to make a slow-motion version of this scene...😅

  • March 17th: Do you prefer single narrator, duet/dual narration, full cast, or "graphic audio" audiobooks?
I don't listen to audiobooks...not because I'm one of those snobs who thinks they don't count as reading. You all know spoken English isn't my strong suit, plus I like the written page too much...

  • March 24th: What’s your go-to coffee/tea order?
The only coffee I drink comes from my moka pot...mixed with (lactose-free) milk for my home breakfast. Not a cappuccino - just around a glass and a half of plain milk with a nice dose of coffee to make it light brown (I think the colour that most resembles it is called, ironically, Champagne Beige).

  • March 31st: What's your favourite colour? (a question I submitted)
Apart from black (which is, technically, not a colour), I love all strong colours, but red has always been my favourite. Red and black together? A trademark for me 😍. Colours you'll never see me in and that I dislike for most things, car included: grey, brown, white, blue (except for the TARDIS of course 😁).

Me as a bird 😁 (Red-breasted Blackbird - photo by Francesco Veronesi under Wikimedia Commons licence)

Well, that's it for now. Did you enjoy this post? Would you like to participate in the meme on a regular or semi-regular basis, and get emailed the prompt list? Just head over here and fill in Jen's form! (Of course, you can jump in anytime you like - you are under no obligation to actually do all the posts, or even most of them, just because you signed up, and you can remove yourself from the list at any time). And if you're interested in participating in a more casual manner, or only in commenting, here is the TMST prompt list for the month of April:

  • April 7th: Do you like spoilers? Do you read the last chapter first?
  • April 14th: What do you still love doing that you loved as a kid? (a question I submitted)
  • April 21st: How do you like to celebrate your birthday?
  • April 28th: What's your favourite sports team?

I'll only be back for the meme on April 28th for another round-up, but in the meantime, I'll read your posts and comment on them!

Now tell me something...what's the colour you like the most/wear most often?
(By the way - of course you're welcome to answer any of the other monthly questions too in the comments, or even all of them!)

January-February Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
ARE THERE ANY BOOKS YOU'VE READ THAT CHANGED YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON A SUBJECT?

  • January 6th: What are your blogging/reading goals for the new year?
As I wrote in my 2025 wrap-up: post weekly (or better, produce one post per week, which isn't the same) and incorporate more backlist books into review schedule. As for the reading part, I never set any goal because I want to do things at a leisurely pace.

Tell Me Something Tuesday: Which Superpower Do You Wish You Had?

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings in order to discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging (and some slightly more personal matters throw in for good measure). This week's question is...

WHICH SUPERPOWER DO YOU WISH YOU HAD?

I would very much like to have something akin to the Doctor's regenerative power, only with conscious purpose and limited to specific body parts, so I could use it to conjure a head of glorious curls for myself 😂 (and to repair this old body LOL). Or I would like to at least be able to go back in time to get proper perms 😭. But since these are very peculiar uses of powers that are meant to work a bit differently, I'll go with a classic...TELEPORTATION!

Tell Me Something Tuesday: What Underrated Books or Authors Would You Recommend?

WHAT UNDERRATED BOOKS OR AUTHORS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND?

I have quite a few - which makes sense, since Offbeat YA was born out of my desire to spotlight books that mostly fly under the radar and/or are quirky and not exactly fitting the mainstream mold (hence my blog's name). For this post, I decided to limit myself to books/series that have less than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads to date, or I would have written an encyclopedia 😅(that's why some of my 5-star reads aren't on this list, while a number of 4.5 ones are). The books are in alphabetical order according to the author's surname*. The titles redirects you to Goodreads, but you can find a link to my reviews under each synopsis. Brace yourselves...

*(Also, please note: I would have liked to use a snippet from my reviews for each book along with the synopsis, but this post would have gotten too long - which it already is LOL - and summarising my thoughts would have been too much work. I apologise in advance for the mammoth post...😅).

November 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
ARE YOU AN EARLY BIRD OR A NIGHT OWL?

  • November 4th: Where do you purchase the majority of your books?
I use two Italian sites that also offer a nice selection of books in English. I like that I can buy cash-on-delivery from them, so I'm not forced to use a credit card...I'm a tad paranoid about that.

October 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE HALLOWEEN (OR COSPLAY) COSTUME? *BONUS FOR PHOTOS!

  • October 7th: What's a movie or TV show that you'd recommend to everyone?
You all know I'm a huge series fan, and I have a number of favourites that I love to bits, but most of them I couldn't, in good conscience, recommend to "everyone". I mean, there's probably no such thing as a series that would qualify. Then again, I think Fame might appeal to most people...and even if I didn't love the latest seasons, I strongly believe that Doctor Who might do the same, even if you aren't a sci-fi fan, because at its core, it's about an age-old, ever-changing alien who, in whatever of their incarnations, retains a genuine curiosity and a deep love for the human race, and does their best to save it, and has a penchant for making its members feel special...It's a show that feels like a warm embrace, and makes you forget your woes for an hour, so what more can you ask for?

April 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT SPRING?

  • April 1st: What is your current genre of choice? Has it changed recently?
Broadly speaking, I tend to read under the supernatural (and supernatural horror) umbrella - afterlife, urban fantasy, portal fantasy, and ever magical realism in a way, can be considered supernatural subgenres. I also like sci-fi, but mostly limited to time travel and multiverse. I've been reading these types of books for years now, and I'm sure I'll keep reading them as long as I live.

March 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR BLOG?

  • March 4th: What are three things you'll never get tired of doing? (a question I submitted)
Reading. Blogging. Perming/dying my hair (though, as my older readers know too well by now, the perm is nothing like it used to be 😭).
Sorry, nothing to see here LOL. It's not like I do other things with my time than reading and blogging, given the situation. And I don't plan on changing my appearance EVER.

  • March 11th: Have you ever ventured out of your comfort zone and ended up having a nice experience? (a question I submitted)
I need my confort zone SO BADLY. I'd get too anxious if I left it behind. I need to be in control. I'm so afraid of things that can take an unpredictable turn that I've never wanted to learn to drive (not even a scooter! I did learn to drive a bicycle as a kid, but I've never actually used one to move around). I think the only "brave" thing I ever did was try for radio, for all the good it did me. And I only talked myself into it because 1) I was in love with the radio world and wanted to be part of it, and 2) I knew the station was looking for new voices...so I actually stood a chance not to be rejected on sight. Also, being a radio host came with the perk of being invisible to my audience...

  • March 18th: Have you met any bookish/blogging friends in person? (a question I submitted - reworded for the better 🙂)
Of course not, since all you lovely people live miles and miles from here...The nearest bookish friend I've ever had hails from Hungary, so you understand my plight 😉. Anyhow, I would be a bit terrified to get the chance to meet you and talk in person (see: confort zone answer above). I think I'd immediately forget my English...😓 😂

("only" fourteen, actually - one of them was postponed to September!).

January 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WINTER?

  • January 7th: What are your blogging/reading goals for the new year?
See my end-of-year wrap-up: post weekly (or better, produce one post per week, which isn't the same) and incorporate more backlist books into review schedule.

  • January 14th: What book have you most recently reread? Did your opinion of the book change?
Myriad by Joshua David Bellin (Adult, sci-fi - published in May 2023, reread in October 2024). My opinions on the books almost never change (then again, if they do, it's only by a fraction), and I'm pleased to say this one was no exception 👍.

  • January 21st: Which book/TV/movie character would you like to be friends with? (a question I submitted)
The kids from Fame (1982-1987 TV series) were around my age (or at least, their characters were) when the show was on, and I loved them and their dynamics - plus I didn't have any real friends back then, so they were my lifeline in more than one way. I wish I could have been friends with them in real life - especially with Doris (Valerie Landsburg) and Bruno (Lee Curreri)...(see below).

Tell Me Something Tuesday: What Day in Your Life Would You Like to Relive?

WHAT DAY IN YOUR LIFE WOULD YOU LIKE TO RELIVE?

Truth be told...none. As Lewis Carroll would put it,
"It’s no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then." (Alice in Wonderland)
If I could go back (as in, shove my grown-up mind in my younger body, I assume?) to one of the (few) capital-happy days of my life (like when I met my once-favourite singer for the first time), I would indeed be a different person, or the people in it would mean nothing to me anymore because I've become too far-removed from them, or I would be aware that the joy I felt back then was based on false premises. There isn't a single happy day that I can think of that wouldn't be tainted by the turn my life has taken since then, or by my present awareness of things I didn't realise at the time, or by my knowing I should have taken a different path, sometimes even in that very moment, and built a better life for myself. So...if you asked me, would you like to go back to a certain day and tell your younger self to live her life differently, I'd say yes, please, take me back NOW. But the happy days of the past are better left alone. That naive, hopeful girl will never come back anymore.

The current team is composed of Berls at Because Reading Is Better Than Real LifeJen at That's What I'm Talking AboutKaren at For What It's WorthLinda at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell and Roberta at Offbeat YA.
