January 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WINTER?
- January 7th: What are your blogging/reading goals for the new year?
See my end-of-year wrap-up: post weekly (or better, produce one post per week, which isn't the same) and incorporate more backlist books into review schedule.
- January 14th: What book have you most recently reread? Did your opinion of the book change?
Myriad by Joshua David Bellin (Adult, sci-fi - published in May 2023, reread in October 2024). My opinions on the books almost never change (then again, if they do, it's only by a fraction), and I'm pleased to say this one was no exception 👍.
- January 21st: Which book/TV/movie character would you like to be friends with? (a question I submitted)
The kids from
Fame (1982-1987 TV series) were around my age (or at least, their characters were) when the show was on, and I loved them and their dynamics - plus I didn't have any real friends back then, so they were my lifeline in more than one way. I wish I could have been friends with them in real life - especially with Doris (Valerie Landsburg) and Bruno (Lee Curreri)...(see below).
- January 28th: What is your favorite thing about winter? (a question I submitted)
My birthday (Dec. 14th)...and the lack of life-draining heat 😅.
I'm also anticipating February 7th's question, which is today's one's companion, because I'm planning to take a hiatus next month:
- February 7th: What is your least favourite thing about winter? (a question I submitted)
Getting sick...which never fails to happen (maybe because of my CLL, but then again, I used to get sick every winter as a kid too, and I wasn't immunocompromised yet...maybe the lack of tonsils had/still has a hand in this). Every year a damned cold, plus (and especially) a pharyngitis, laryngitis, whatever, that goes on for WEEKS 😭 🤬.
Well, that's it for now. Did you enjoy this post?
Would you like to participate in the meme on a regular or semi-regular basis, and get emailed the prompt list? Just head over here and fill in Jen's form! (Of course, you can jump in anytime you like - you are under no obligation to actually do all the posts, or even most of them, just because you signed up, and you can remove yourself from the list at any time). And if you're interested in participating in a more casual manner, or only in commenting, here is the TMST prompt list for the month of February:
- Feb 4th: What is your least favorite thing about winter? (a question I submitted)
- Feb 11th: Share your romance (HEA/HFN) recommendations
- Feb 18st: Do you like to cook or bake? What is your favorite thing to make? (a question I submitted)
- Feb 25th: Which books are you looking forward to reading this Spring? (March-May)
I'll only be back for the meme on February 25th, and as I said, in between my Offbeat Offline post about January and my TMST one for the end of February, I'll be on hiatus.
Now tell me something...what do you like about winter?
Fame! I loved that show.
ReplyDeleteWe old girls remember LOL.
DeleteI used to love to watch that Fame show and I can definitely see why you would want to hang around with them. I think I would love to be friends with the people in The Big Bang Theory. Yes, Sheldon would annoy me and I'd have to tell Howard to stop making racially offensive comments to Raj, but I do think they demonstrated a close set of friends. I also love their fandom habits and geekiness - which I consider a good thing!
ReplyDeleteGeekiness IS a good thing...though from what I've seen, they brought it to the next level LOL.
DeleteGreat roundup. And now you've given me an answer for next week's post. LOL! Nah, I already have one, but that is a good answer.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about Fame... they were so cool, and they could dance on the tables. haha!
You're welcome to steal my answer! Not like it was particularly original, I guess 😉.
DeleteTheir cafeteria was for dancing more than for eating...😂
Winter is my least favorite season, but I do love snuggling in blankets and sweaters😁
ReplyDeleteSnuggling should be a sport! Anyhow, you do enjoy a bit of snow too, don't you? Maybe not too much 😉.
DeleteYou have the same birthday as my mother and two of my cousins. Look at that! I loved Fame. It was a great show. I wanted to go to a cool high school like that.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? All Dec. 14th babies? Funny!
DeleteI don't know about you, but I wouldn't have had anything to contribute to that school LOL. I'm a self-professed quasi-decent amateur singer...and nothing else. But it was awe-inspiring to see those people perform. I think everyone has dreamed to be enrolled in such a school at some point...
I can't remember if I watched Fame. I saw the movie. I didn't have friends back then either. I always think kids are cooler and more tolerant now than back then but when I talk to my nieces - they are not. In some ways, they are even crueler, thanks to SM.
ReplyDeletesquishbumbleshoot
The movie was grittier, plus only four of the original actors came back for the series, and a bunch of characters were different.
DeleteSM are polarising that way. There's a lot of activism, but an even huger lot of bullying. The same goes for adult users though...
Look! a new magic word! 😂
I still haven't read Myriad. Thanks for the reminder. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to think what I like about winter. I guess it has its own beauty. A winter sky sometimes... I used t olike winter a lot more but as I get older the cold irritates me more lol.
Funny how the heat works the same way for me LOL. Not that I like the cold, but at least you can live with it...bundle up, etc. I can't remember if you get snow (often) in your corner of the world?
DeleteAnd yes, you OUGHT to read Myriad LOL. Seriously, I can see it work for you!
"Greg! You didn't lose your reviewer's touch. This was awesome!"
DeleteThank you. I could have replied there but wasn't sure if you'd see it. Just wanted to say THANK you
And yes we get snow. The last few years not as much but this year has been snowmageddon. I think we've had snow on the ground more or less since Thanksgiving?
LOL, thank YOU for the reply and the update! That's some serious amount of snow...("snowmageddon" LOL).
DeleteHere's to a winter with minimal sickness!! I really do enjoy the cooler weather we get in the winter, but where I'm living now, we get sporadic ice which makes going to work (or anywhere else I need to go) a real pain, so... It's a give and take!
ReplyDeleteHaha, this year I haven't fallen ill yet (as I'm wont to do in between December and January), maybe because the climate has been unseasonably warm. Let's hope I can skip this winter! 😁
Delete(A bit of) snow is cool (no pun intended), ice is definitely NOT.
I didn't realize your birthday was 12/14. You share a birthday with my dog, Cooper, and are just one day ahead of my husband's birthday!
ReplyDeleteThen you have excellent taste in companions, both of the human and canine variety! 😉
DeleteIs it too late to wish you a happy birthday now that it's February? Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I like about winter is having an excuse to stay indoor and to go to bed early and read. Sure, it's a bit like being a lazy bear but I just prefer to stay indoors from the cold.
Have a lovely day.
Happy to accept late birthday wishes!
DeleteThat's the silver lining of winter - though alas, one needs to move a bit in order to stay healthy and in shape. Personally, I tend to stay holed up more in the summer, in front of a fan, because the heat is too much for me to bear.
Yes winter sickness. I have been fearing Noro Virus since it is everywhere. Even BF had it, but kid and I have survived this far . Ugh. Everything is out in the winter
ReplyDeleteI hope you two keep avoiding the virus! Also, you get a long winter where you are, for all purposes, so I guess it's harder to dodge seasonal sicknesses in the prolonged cold...
DeleteHmm, idk who I'd want to be friends with, but the people you chose seem like they'd be fun friends! Your favorite thing about winter is my least favorite, I'm so tired of being cold 😭 But we have AC here so I don't have to worry about heat in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI get suffering from the cold - I'm not a "cold" person either, just someone who hates the heat, so she would take the lesser of two evils any day LOL. When one doesn't feel well for any reason (and you have plenty), the cold is never welcome 💚. AC would be great, but I'd still have to go out in the heat and sweat (and suffer occasional drops in blood pressure) because I don't drive...
DeleteI feel like I'm constantly sick in the winter. For example... right now... and like a week and a half ago. I think I had maybe three days of feeling better? Between kids and work I can't catch a break. I also desperately miss warm days. We've had some 50's and 60's weather this week and I am SOAKING it up even though I'm sick. I hope you enjoy your hiatus next month. You'll be missed!
ReplyDeletePoor you! Have you ever tried immune system boosters? Also, 50's/60's is still cold in my book!
DeleteThank you! 🧡
