Tell Me Something Tuesday: What's Your Blogging Routine?

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings in order to discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging (and some slightly more personal matters thrown in for good measure). While Heidi is on an extended hiatus, there are five of us who are hosting it and providing the questions. The current team is composed of Berls at Because Reading Is Better Than Real LifeJen at That's What I'm Talking AboutKaren at For What It's WorthLinda at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell and Roberta at Offbeat YA. This week's question is...

WHAT'S YOUR BLOGGING ROUTINE?

Before tackling my actual blogging routine, I'm going to talk about some blogging-adjacent activities, because well, we all know that this thing we do involves a lot more than reading books, brainstorming ideas and producing posts...

Since I work the afternoons Monday to Friday, my blogging activity takes place in the couple of hours between dinner and bedtime and in the weekends. But the first thing I do after breakfast is have a look at my emails, Blogger comments, reading list (that is, new posts from friends), Goodreads, Twitter, NetGalley and Edelweiss accounts. (Plus, eh, the news headlines). If I see something that I need to interact with, I bookmark it for later (but I try to respond to my comments right away). This may take from 30 to 45 minutes, and it's not good for my chores, but I can't start my day unless I know what's going on everywhere LOL 🤷‍♀️. I check on Twitter from work too (because it's quick), but rarely on the other sites - unless my boss is away (I've written whole blog posts at work, but only when he was on vacation or absent for the day).

I've been keeping a reading/blogging/posting schedule for two years and a half now, and it works very well for me. After dinner, I either read or draft posts (sometimes I comment, but I do the bulk of my blog-hopping over the weekend). On Saturdays and Sundays, I do the same. Due to my husband's issues (he's an amputee in his right leg, and he has other health problems, mostly but not only related to his disability), we spend most of our time at home, hence I make the best of it by getting ahead with my blogging. Except from January I'll devote my weekend afternoons to studying for a public examination that "should" take place in 2022 (the subjects are particularly though for me, so I decided to get a head-start). I still don't know how it will impact my blogging, but I'm sure it will - I'm already keeping a looser schedule for next month. We'll see how it goes...but I HAVE to do this.

Well, that's it for now. Did you enjoy this post? Would you like to participate in the meme on a regular or semi-regular basis, and get emailed the prompt list? Just head over here and fill in Jen's form! (Of course, you can jump in anytime you like - you are under no obligation to actually do all the posts, or even most of them, just because you signed up, and you can remove yourself from the list at any time). And if you're interested in participating in a more casual manner, or only in commenting, here is the TMST prompt list for the rest of December and the month of January:

  • December 29th: What are your favorite books/audiobooks that you read in 2020?
  • January 5th: What are your blogging goals for the new year?
  • January 12th: Resolutions/words of the year - do you do them? What are they for 2021?
  • January 19th: Bookish jobs: if you could do something in the bookish world for employment, what would you choose and why?
  • January 26th: Do you reread? And are you ever tempted to change your ratings when you do? (a question I submitted)
I'll be back on January 5th, but I'll visit your posts in the meantime!

Now tell me something...how do you tackle blogging and all the things that come with it?

  1. I think most bloggers blog on the weekend or when they have time so I can understand why you chose to use your time between dinner and bedtime & weekends to do some blogging. But I'm not as good as you in keeping a schedule.

I also check my emails first thing in the morning but I don't have any of the social media you mentioned here. I try to avoid reading the news but I always fail. Even if I'm not reading the news, they come to me because people spread it around so you can't avoid the news.

    Good luck with your studying.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. A schedule is absolutely not required! It made my life easier, but then again, I'm a different type of blogger than you are. I have book commitments and whatnot.

      Thank you!

  2. I like the term "blogging-adjacent" because let's face it... there are a lot of those (even reading!). I work part-time, so I try to get my blogging for the week set up on Sunday and Mondays, then finish it out on Thursdays (my days off). But I'm also last minute b/c a lot of times I'm reading right up until the day before the review is going to post!

  3. You are a lot more organized than me. I always write my week of posts on the weekend (usually Saturday), but everything else has a loose schedule. With work from home, I can sneak in reading a some posts when work is slow, and I love that! Otherwise, I usually blog hop after dinner for about an hour. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you as you prepare for your exams!

    1. I could never write a whole batch of posts in a day or two! You're the bee's knees of bloggers!

      Thank you 😘.

  4. I wouldn't say I adhere to a strict blogging routine. I always post on Friday's, so it's just whenever I can get a post written during the week, haha! I do try to blog hop and check comments every day, but sometimes I forget. I totally relate to writing blog posts at work when the boss is away too, haha! I feel like I get most of my work done during slow work days lol.

    1. Always posting on the same day probably makes life easier when it comes to get those posts written (unless you're like me and you plan for weeks and months ahead LOL). And ha! Bless those slow days! 😉

  5. Your method of bookmarking is so interesting to me - I don't bookmark anything, I'll just get to feedly, where I keep track of all the blogs I follow, when I have the time. Ahh, you're supposed to start studying soon! Best of luck!

    1. I don't like aggregators because they show the whole post instead of the truncated version...and I don't feel like they have the right. Anyhow, bookmarking works for me, but maybe it's just because I'm a dinosaur 😂.

Thank you! Again, have a great year!

Welcome to Offbeat YA! I love hearing from you and always - I mean always - acknowledge your comments. This used to be a full democracy place, because anyone could comment, regardless of being a registered member of any community. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the Anonymous comment option, because I was getting too much spam that didn't get filtered. So, you’ll need to have a Google account (Gmail will suffice) in order to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, jump right in! Come on, you know you want to...😉 And be sure to leave a link!
BTW...I don't care if a post is a million months old - you comment, I respond. And you make my day 😃.
Note: this is an award/tag free blog. Sorry I can't accept nominations due to lack of time.
