- I've been fascinated by the English language since I was 9. I wanted to understand the words of the songs I heard on the radio so badly. I'm sure about the year because I remember I wanted to know what "Feelings" (the Morris Albert song's title) meant. Well, yeah, sappy song haha. My musical tastes have changed through the years, but my interest in the English language never wavered - I even graduated in English Language and Literature. It's funny, because I hardly ever had to study the aforementioned language in high school - I absorbed everything on the spot. Except...I'm fluent in written English, but I have trouble understanding people when they talk 😳. I know it doesn't make sense, but I haven't actually spoken English for 25 years now, and I can't follow a TV series or an interview without subtitles.
- I'm neither an artistic nor an athletic person. I mean, my only claim to art is writing...and making graphics for my blog LOL. But I don't know how to paint, take photographs, play an instrument, dance (even if I love dancing), swim, skate, play volleyball, you name it - basically anything in either department...though I'm not that bad at singing (or so I delude myself). I've never harboured any desire to learn one of those crafts (even if I do love watching/listening to performers...while sports leave me cold), and I hate physical activities like the plague. Unhealthy, I know...
- I spend much more time scheduling things than doing them (you're not surprised, are you? 😉). Applying a schedule to blogging in 2017 was a recent development of this compulsion. Lately, I've also started to schedule my chores (not the daily ones of course - the biggest stuff you do once in a while), but honestly, that was because I realised I was so behind on everything, I was starting to despair of ever having a clean house again. If I break every room in smaller zones, it feels less intimidating (and tiresome! I'm an old lady after all LOL - and my hubs can't help me because of his health problems), and I always know where I stand with regards to timing and fitting a chore or more into my day/week.
- I can multitask (do we have another choice nowadays?), but I can only read one book at a time...or it's more like I refuse to split my attention between two or more (!!!) books. When I was at uni, I only studied for one exam at a time. That probably accounts for my graduating after 5,000 years...
- I'm very opinionated about...well, a lot of things. Like, no one could ever convince me to buy an item of clothing I'm not sold on - I'd rather wear my old things for one more season. I don't care if people like my hair or my clothes. I mean, it may hurt me in the short run, but I know what I like and I'm determined to have things my way and be the person I want to be.
Well, that's it for now. And if you're interested in participating, here is the TMST prompt list for the rest of July and the month of August:
- July 30th: Let’s make new friends: share some of your favourite blogs
- August 6th: Are there genres that you keep trying only to be disappointed?
- August 13th: What mistakes have you learned to stop repeating when it comes to reading and blogging?
- August 20th: Have you found a way to cut back significantly on your TBR pile?
- August 27th: Why do you read blog posts?
You know I am going to be singing Feelings for the rest of the night. I can't even remember the last time I heard that song. I think my daughter spends more time planning than doing too. So, you are in good company with that. I always loved foreign languages. I tried to get my dad to converse with me in German, when I was younger, but he always answered in English (boo), and I studied three languages in high school, two in college.
ReplyDeleteHaha, sorry for getting that song stuck in your head!
Delete"Spending more time planning than doing" is accurate enough on my part! But since your daughter scored such a great job, I'm sure she "did" enough with her life...which is not my case...
So you know FIVE different languages??? I feel so shamed now LOL. German is probably close enough to English (at least since they share the same root, so to speak), but all those hard-sounding words AND the ones that seem to never end because they're made of other words put together always intimidated me...
GOOD MORNING ROBERTA *puts on Moriarty voice* Did you miss my presence and good morning calls? 😂
ReplyDeleteAnyways 3 years is a LONG time; you could have changed! You're still an artist, even if you're writing, at least in my opinion... It's just a different form of art. 😉 And I don't have an athletic bone either, though I wouldn't mind walking a hiking trail or swimming laps. Running for miles, well, that's another thing entirely.
Being opinionated isn't necessarily a bad thing - at least the people who end up as your friends are guaranteed to like you for who you are, even if they might be frustrated over you not getting that very pretty book you don't actually want.

DeleteActually...heck, yes 😉.
Quote: "You're still an artist, even if you're writing, at least in my opinion... It's just a different form of art. 😉"
Thank you 😀.

OK, so...now you're shaming me, because I can't think of a single athletic activity I WOULD do LOL. Does blog-hopping count? 😂
And...thank you for validating my stubbornness...I mean, opinionatedness 🤣. At the cost of your being frustrated LOL.
Not even walking with a friend? Roberta you hurt me. Can I at least drag you to places to get food???
DeleteHaha, walking I can do. I'm not a big eater, but as long as there's salty food and good company, I'm good 😉.
DeleteI think it makes complete sense that you're fluent in written but not spoken English. Comprehending written words is a lot easier, you have more time to process what you're reading or writing. When I've tried learning Spanish, it was always easier to read/write it. I love dancing too even though I'm also not good at it! Lol. I think it's great you do you hair, clothing, etc. based on what you want---that's how it should be!
ReplyDeleteAfter attending uni, I should be way more capable to comprehend spoken English...but let's not go there LOL. Spanish is totally different from English, so I can see you having a headache with the spoken part.
DeleteLOL, shouldn't it? But if you're like me, it's difficult to find something to wear when the latest trend is, say, balloon-like blouses, or colours/prints that don't go with your still perfectly fine two-year-old trousers 😂 ðŸ˜.
It’s fun to read this posts and get to know my fellow bloggers better. I would have never guessed that English wasn’t your first language based on your blog. Your grammar is perfect. So impressed. Hopefully, someday you can visit the U.S. and practice your English. Hope you are having a wonderful summer and that isn’t too terribly hot where you are!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun post to do too! And thank you!
DeleteOh man, it IS terribly hot, but we're going to get rain in a few hours, and they say it will rain for a whole day, so we should be able to breath after that!
I just checked back in here and realized blogger ATE MY COMMENT. I know I left one!
ReplyDeleteKaren @ For What It's Worth
So we're even now! 😜 Remember my Blogger jail phase? LOL. Except you're not even in jail...I'm sure the comment-eating thing happened to me with your blog as well, a few weeks ago.
DeleteIt was a LOOONG comment to and I don't remember it all *CRIES*
DeleteBut basically I said that you are fascinating! & I love learning about all your little quirks.
There was more but....oh well.
Karen @ For What It's Worth
No one has ever called me "fascinating" - I actually went and reread my post because I was wondering what made you think I was...and I still don't have a clue haha. Thank you!
DeleteI don't know how to swim or dance or play sports either. 'I hate physical activities like the plague.' - that's me too. Honestly, I think the only sport I'm good at is sitting, though that's probably not a sport.
ReplyDelete'I'm very opinionated about...well, a lot of things.' - I'm like that too and I see no problem with that. Though I am a bit soft when it comes to other people's opinion now and then, it can't be helped. Some opinions you just can't ignore.
I can't think of anything peculiar or funny about me. Maybe I like to organize things a little too much though when I'm working on something, there's a pile of mess. I probably love owning books way too much and I think I have too many of them.
Have a lovely day.

DeleteHa! Preach to the choir! Though I would at least walk more if I could (I mean regular walks, not hiking or stuff like that), but I have a weird life.
Being opinionated is completely OK, as long as you let other people have their way too. I mean, we should always try not to judge...I think the blogging community helped me a lot with that.
Organising things and owning books are lovely quirks! Yes, I'm biased LOL.
Haha, I'm just not an interesting person. Reading, blogging, and Netflix are my main hobbies. As you know, I love horror and horror movies. I've never been able to do sports. My idea of physical activity is light yoga and taking walks.
ReplyDeleteI'm crafty though, and I've dabbled in painting, pottery, and various DIY projects. I painted the ceiling of my bathroom to look like the night sky (never. again. Michelangelo, I am not.), and I made what felt like a hundred cut + tie blankets one year for Christmas gifts. My mom is a wizard on a sewing machine, and she's been showing me a few things. It's hard though because I'm all words and grammar; my brain is not so good at spatial reasoning. 😂
I'm also an avid garage saler! It's a big thing in the Midwest spring-autumn, so I'm constantly searching out books, bookshelves, and other weird stuff. I recently found a steamer trunk in AWESOME condition for ten dollars. I put it at the end of my bed and have bruised my shins twice now by walking into it. The price of things that look really cool. 🙄
Light yoga and taking walks is still much more than I ever did LOL.
DeleteQuote: "I painted the ceiling of my bathroom to look like the night sky".
Wow! That sounds hard! But I'm sure it's awesome and I'd like to see it!
It seems like your brain does a good job at spatial reasoning though - since you've "dabbled" in all those things! My mom was a dressmaker when she was young, and she's made a few cool things for me over the years...but I NEVER EVER wanted to learn a thing about that (not that she pressed me to). It was one of those "female activities" for me, so I wanted nowhere near it LOL. But even if I did, it would have never worked well. I suck at fixing a simple unstitched hem 😂.

That sounds like a great bargain! And you might find out it's a portal to the Moors! 😂
It's such an impressive skill though, isn't it? I was never interested when I was younger, and I still don't really have much interest in hemming things or fixing them. I want to make cool things. Because I'm basically a five year old inside. 😂
ReplyDeleteBahaha. So far, it's a portal to pain and bruises, but we'll see.
At least you want to make things! I'm trying to come up with a physical activity that I might like (cooking, decorating, growing plants, whatever) and I'm drawing a blank 😂.
DeleteQuote: "a portal to pain and bruises".
How poetical LOL. It could almost be the title of one of those books that have been all the rage lately ("A thing of this and that"!!!) 🤣.
