April 2025 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT SPRING?
- April 1st: What is your current genre of choice? Has it changed recently?
Broadly speaking, I tend to read under the supernatural (and supernatural horror) umbrella - afterlife, urban fantasy, portal fantasy, and ever magical realism in a way, can be considered supernatural subgenres. I also like sci-fi, but mostly limited to time travel and multiverse. I've been reading these types of books for years now, and I'm sure I'll keep reading them as long as I live.
- April 8th: Which author do you wish you could meet? And what would you say to them? (a question I submitted)
Let's imagine for a moment that I could sustain a conversation in English without embarrassing myself LOL. So, I have a few authors that I'm close to or in speaking terms with, and it would be neat if I could meet them - Erin Callahan and B.C. Johnson above all. And I suppose no one will be surprised to hear that I'd very much like to meet Seanan McGuire, but as to what I'd say to her if I did...HA! She intimidates me a little, to be honest - she's very active on social media, and you can ask her anything on her site, but overall she comes across as guarded, probably because of her popularity and the toxicity it can entail (not to mention, her obligations as a traditionally published author)...which I totally understand, except it would probably make me afraid to say the wrong thing or something...😰
- April 15th: It's been a while...tell us more about you!
I actually went back and unearthed a couple of personal posts where I had listed my main quirks in
2016 and
2019...very little, if anything, has changed since then, apart from my owning a cell phone now (but it's a normal phone, not a "smart" one, and I only use it for necessity reasons). Those posts' content aside, you all know that I love David Tennant, Queen, Billy Joel...that I worked in radio for 20+ years...that I'm a huge fan of TV series but am not interested in movies...and a number of other peculiarities of mine I've touched upon in my posts. I can't think of a single (interesting) thing that you don't know already, except maybe the ones that are too negative or sad to talk about.
- April 22nd: What types of music do you enjoy?
Favourite genres: rock, '70s disco, '80s pop. Favourite artists: Queen, Billy Joel. Since I lost my radio job, I have for all purposes disconnected myself from current music, like any respectable middle-aged individual 😂. I don't even have TIME for keeping up with it, since reading and blogging about books take up all my free time, but even if I did...I can't muster the interest anymore. It's been a while since I last listened to the music I actually enjoy, go figure.
- April 29th: What is your favourite thing about spring? (a question I submitted)
It used to be that I permed my hair in that season (usually around mid-May), but now perms have become a burdensome affair that never turns out right, so I don't know. (And yeah, I'm aware that I didn't even list a "spring" thing, only a thing that "I" use to do in spring). Probably, the thing I like most about spring is that I'm not dying from the heat yet...
I'm also anticipating May 6th's question, which is today's one's companion, because I'll be busy in May and I don't plan on participating in the meme (apart from the last question of the month):
- May 6th: What is your least favourite thing about spring? (a question I submitted)
The wind. Seriously, spring always seems to come hand in hand with wind, and I hate it. Also, I never know how to dress for the spring climate...
Well, that's it for now. Did you enjoy this post?
Would you like to participate in the meme on a regular or semi-regular basis, and get emailed the prompt list? Just head over here and fill in Jen's form! (Of course, you can jump in anytime you like - you are under no obligation to actually do all the posts, or even most of them, just because you signed up, and you can remove yourself from the list at any time). And if you're interested in participating in a more casual manner, or only in commenting, here is the TMST prompt list for the month of May:
- May 6th: What is your least favourite thing about spring? (a question I submitted)
- May 13th: Share some book covers you love from the past year
- May 20th: Do you have a fitness routine or exercise you enjoy?
- May 27th: Which books are you looking forward to reading this summer? (June-August)
I'll only be back for the meme on May 27th, but I'll read your posts and comment on them!
Now tell me something...what do you like about spring?
Spring tends to get hot fast. I like Fall more.
ReplyDelete"Spring tends to get hot fast."
DeleteEspecially where you are, I'm sure. I hear you...fall has the best climate.
I wouldn't like to meet authors or any famous people. I think it would ruin the work they created. But I guess there is awe in meeting these people.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to dress for summer and winter but like you the in between weathers is rather hard. But mostly because the weather is never just cold or just hot. I also like the cool weather of spring but also how some of nature just seem more alive and colorful, at least, some of them.
Have a lovely day.
"I think it would ruin the work they created."
DeleteI get it - there's always the chance that they wouldn't be as charming or interesting in person as one perceives them to be through their work...but I'm a fangirl at heart, what can I say 😅.
I miss the old mid-seasons, when the weather was predictable. Now they're crazy!
I will post the worst thing about Spring next week - but it is weather related! I love your taste in music. Having kids kept me current with music for years, but now they do their own thing and I mainly listen to audiobooks. I have lots of playlists, but all the music is a few year or decades old! Maybe you can find a new spring hairstyle?
ReplyDeleteYour kids kept you current with music just like working in radio did for me...so now we're both out of the loop LOL.
Delete"Maybe you can find a new spring hairstyle?"
Oh, goodness, no. Afro hair is my religion. I'll never not have curls, even if they're subpar now compared to what they used to look like.
I have social anxiety and always have, but when I was younger I went to book signings all the time, maybe to force myself to go out of my comfort zone. So I've met so many big authors over the years. Now I probably wouldn't do that, it's just awkward for me! I've even met Seanan McGuire, she's not very friendly actually. She might have social anxiety too!
ReplyDeleteThe fangirl in me has always had the upper hand when I got the chance to meet people I admired, but I totally get what you're saying. And it's probably easier to do things out of your confort zone when you're younger...
Delete"I've even met Seanan McGuire, she's not very friendly actually. She might have social anxiety too!"
That might be the case. Also, she doesn't sounds like she might have a bubbly, extrovert personality to begin with. And as I said, she manages to come across as very guarded even when she discloses personal facts.
Yes, shocking that you would like to meet McGuire. I feel my musical catalog more of less froze. Maybe it's something that happens to us as we age. I love 80s music (I was more The Cure, Depeche Mode), but I kept adding new faves through the early 2000s. I always have to ask my daughter about songs now.
ReplyDelete"Yes, shocking that you would like to meet McGuire."
DeleteRight? Who would have guessed? 😂
"I feel my musical catalog more of less froze."
I think at a certain point, everything old is new again...except we were there when the originals came out...plus, it's probably a sad fact of life that we stop being able to enjoy new music after a certain age. I guess it happened later than usual to me because I worked in radio until 2022, so there was a professional reason for me to listen to new music.
Loved this post! Our spring has been really wonky - just like the weather the past year. We've had freeze warnings and nights into the low 30s at times. As far as authors, I've always wanted to meet Stephen King (And his dog Molly). Joe Hill would be cool as well as I want to know what it was like having Stephen King as a father.
ReplyDeletePrince is my favorite musician. Like you, I listen to older 80 and 90s stuff but some newer stuff as well. I never got to see him in concert before he died which is a huge regret. But I live and grew up in WV and when I was at concert-going age, we were more likely to get country stars than someone like Prince.
Also I hate the wind. It scares me the most of weather related stuff so Spring is always questionable because of it. Great answers and thanks for sharing!
That sounds awfully like a winter weather! To think that we've barely had any cold this winter...most of the time, it felt like spring.
DeleteLOL, it's funny that you would want to meet Stephen King's dog (I mean, you have two beloved dogs, so maybe not that funny, but still). Is she a web personality? I didn't even know he had a dog (then again, I'm not following him on SM).
Did you know that Prince was one of Freddie Mercury's favourite musicians as well? Damn, both our faves died too young.
You have a point about wind being scary (though I mostly hate it because I hate having my hair ruffled LOL).
King used to put pictures of her on some of his social media accounts and called her the devil dog (she was a fluffy little cute furball). I didn't know that Freddie loved Prince. That is really cool and yes, they both died way too soon! Yes, I have long curly hair and the wind does play havoc with it!!
DeleteMy least favorite thing about spring is the pollen that gets everywhere. Texas, especially my area, is inundated by large, mature trees with pollen blowing everywhere. We joke and call it Texas Snow because the entire landscape is covered in yellow pollen. It isn't great for my seasonal allergies, haha. Thankfully, a few good rains usually wash it all away. But with rain comes another dreaded spring arrival...mosquitoes!
ReplyDeleteA rock and a hard place LOL.
DeleteThe best thing about spring is the nature, of course! There are soooo many ducklings in the woods near my house - they're so cute! And bluebells, which are endangered, but everywhere in the woods, and the dandelion seeds blowing like falling snow and gathering in clusters on the willow leaves like tiny snow-drifts... of course, the downside is that I have major hayfever (which is British for 'pollen allergies' lol.)
ReplyDelete"and the dandelion seeds blowing like falling snow and gathering in clusters on the willow leaves like tiny snow-drifts"
DeleteAlways the poet! Aww, ducklings - I would love to see them.
Hayfever, though...major downside 🤧 😬.
Lol, I can't turn it off dammit! ;P
