Tooting Your Trumpet #17

Some people toot their own trumpet. I mean to toot yours. On the first Sunday of every month, I'm sharing your posts, your sites, anything interesting I stumble upon during my internet vagrancies. This month on TYT...
  • TROY TALKS CORPSEY'S CHEAP CHILLERS (an interview on Gaily Dreadful by guest Erin Callahan with author Troy H. Gardner about his indie feature-length film, with a link to the thing itself!)
  •  2021 ADULT SCIENCE-FICTION AND FANTASY BOOK RELEASES BY AUTHORS OF COLOR (a list on Amber's blog Du Livre)
  • READ MORE BOOKS – FREE, LEGAL ALTERNATIVES TO PIRATED BOOKS (a list on Shealea's blog Shut Up, Shealea)
  • ALL THE POSITIVES WITH NEGATIVE REVIEWS (a think piece/discussion post on Rivka's blog The Orangutan Librarian)

Troy Talks Corpsey's Cheap Chillers (interview and link) - by Erin Callahan

In Erin Callahan's words, "Corpsey’s Cheap Chillers is a queer, campy, modern take on hosted late-nite horror movie shows like Elvira’s Movie Macabre". An indie visual horror anthology that Troy H. Gardner put together with almost zero budget and a lot of heart. You can watch the whole thing here, and in case you like it (spoiler: it's "bloody" fun! 😂), you can buy the digital download version with lots of extras here. Or, you know, you can simply read Troy's interview and learn what it takes to make an indie feature-length film...

2021 Adult Science-Fiction and Fantasy Book Releases by Authors of Color (list) - by Amber

Amber compiled a robust list of adult spec-fic books from authors of colour coming this year. Just...browse it and keep your eyes peeled for those?

Read More Books – Free, Legal Alternatives To Pirated Books (list) - by Shealea

Shealea wrote an awfully useful (and detailed) post about free/cheap bookish resources. There's something for every kind of reader in there!

All the Positives with Negative Reviews (think piece/discussion post) - by Rivka

Yet another thought-provoking post from the Orangutan Librarian. People (not only authors! readers too!) need to stop bashing negative reviews, because they're not only valid and honest...they can be useful in unexpected ways!

That's all for now folks! See you the first Sunday of every month for more!

    1. I'm always looking for cheap, legal ways to read books! Books are so expensive. I'll have to check that post out.

    2. All piracy is bad. It's amazing that this topic pops up over and over again.

    3. I'll definitely check out the cheap places for books. I mostly get books from NetGalley, newsletters from authors, giveaways, contests and the occasional blog that wants me to guest post a review for them.

Welcome to Offbeat YA! I love hearing from you and always - I mean always - acknowledge your comments. This used to be a full democracy place, because anyone could comment, regardless of being a registered member of any community. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the Anonymous comment option, because I was getting too much spam that didn't get filtered. So, you’ll need to have a Google account (Gmail will suffice) in order to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, jump right in! Come on, you know you want to...😉 And be sure to leave a link!
BTW...I don't care if a post is a million months old - you comment, I respond. And you make my day 😃.
Note: this is an award/tag free blog. Sorry I can't accept nominations due to lack of time.
