Tooting Your Trumpet #15

Some people toot their own trumpet. I mean to toot yours. On the first Sunday of every month, I'm sharing your posts, your sites, anything interesting I stumble upon during my internet vagrancies. This month on TYT...
  • BOOKISH MUSINGS: I WANT READING TO STOP BEING STRESSFUL AND START BEING FUN AGAIN (a think piece/discussion post on Kit's blog Metaphors and Moonlight)
  • GETTING WORDY: FRIENDSHIPS IN BOOKS (a discussion post on Veronika and Sabrina's blog Wordy and Whimsical)
  • THE #OWNVOICES LABEL HAS LOST ITS WAY (a think piece on Fadwa's blog Word Wonders)
  • EXPERIMENTING WITH BLOGGER (a tip for Blogger users on Charlotte's blog Uglemors)

Kit hits the nail on the head with her examination of reading in the time of blogs. As she puts it, "there’s so much focus on reading more, reading faster, reading everything. There are goals and challenges and, on occasion, people being shamed for reading a certain way". Can we break the circle? Of course we can!

Getting Wordy: Friendships in Books (discussion post) - by Veronika

Veronika examines friendly relationships in novels, at a time and age when (thankfully) bookish friendship isn't the poor cousin of romance anymore. In her own words, "Despite adoring friendships in books, there are certain dynamics and tropes I dislike…and just as many that I absolutely adore. As such, today I’m sharing the best and worst types of friendships in books".

The #Ownvoices Label Has Lost Its Way (think piece) - by Fadwa

Fadwa tackles a label we all know and use, except sometimes we may be doing it all wrong - or partly wrong at least. They notice that "the concept has taken a life of its own and just like anything that starts being used widely, there are certain nuances and caveats that the initial definition doesn’t cover", and then proceed to tell us which ones.

Experimenting with Blogger (tip for Blogger users) - by Charlotte

Butting heads with the new Blogger interface? Charlotte got you covered - she shares a code that will revert your dashboard to the Legacy version! Mind you though: apparently, it doesn't work for everyone (it didn't for me), and there's no way of knowing if the Legacy version (whose option has officially been taken away from us for good) can only be accessed temporarily. Anyway, worth a shot!
(Please note: I blurred the code in the pic above, because of course it's not mine to share, so head over to Charlotte's blog to get it!).

That's all for now folks! See you the first Sunday of every month for more!

    1. I’ll have to head over to Kit’s blog and read her post. I definitely agree that reading has become a stressful task, and I think it comes with us comparing ourselves to other bloggers. Sometimes I have to remind myself to slow down and just enjoy the story!

      1. Personally, I've never experienced the issue, but I know that many people do, and therefore need reassurance that doing things at their own pace (including reading) is OK 🙂.

    2. I tried reverting my blog back to the Legacy version and it didn't work for me either.

      1. I'm starting to think that, for some reason, the Legacy version is still available undercover in some areas and not in others, and that's why some people can access it.

Welcome to Offbeat YA! I love hearing from you and always - I mean always - acknowledge your comments. This used to be a full democracy place, because anyone could comment, regardless of being a registered member of any community. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the Anonymous comment option, because I was getting too much spam that didn't get filtered. So, you’ll need to have a Google account (Gmail will suffice) in order to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, jump right in! Come on, you know you want to...😉 And be sure to leave a link!
BTW...I don't care if a post is a million months old - you comment, I respond. And you make my day 😃.
Note: this is an award/tag free blog. Sorry I can't accept nominations due to lack of time.
