Tooting Your Trumpet #12

Some people toot their own trumpet. I mean to toot yours. On the first Sunday of every month, I'm sharing your posts, your sites, anything interesting I stumble upon during my internet vagrancies. This month on TYT...
  • MY EXPERIENCES WITH PURE OCD (a post on Emily's blog Paperback Princess)
  • MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH : 10 YA BOOKS WITH MENTAL HEALTH REPRESENTATION (a list on Marie's blog Drizzle & Hurricane Books)
  • READ INDIE FORWARD (a pay-it-forward initiative to support independent bookstores by Sourcebooks)
  • WITCHPIN (a book by Joshua Winning)

My Experiences with Pure OCD (post) - by Emily

Emily opens up about her mental health and explains the ins and outs of it. A brave, necessary post, not only from an unburdening perspective, but also because it aims at destroying the stigma that still surrounds mental issues, and it's a way for everyone in the same boat to feel that they're not alone and there's hope at the end of the tunnel.

Mental Health Awareness Month : 10 Ya Books With Mental Health Representation (list) - by Marie

In May, a.k.a. Mental Health Month, Marie posted a list of recommendations for YA books dealing with mental issues. Even if the aforementioned month ended seven days ago, these are good for every time of the year and always relevant.

Read Indie Forward (pay-it-forward initiative) - by Sourcebooks

The publishing house Sourcebooks came up with a social media campaign in order to help your favourite indie bookstores. Buy a book from one of those and send it to a loved one, thus supporting small bookstores during the Covid-19 pandemic! and of course, share the love 🙂. (By the way, at a time like this, please consider buying from Black-owned indie bookstores).

Witchpin (book) - by Joshua Winning

Witchpin is a novella (that recently got a makeover) set in the Sentinel series universe by Joshua Winning. But you can read it without needing prior knowledge of the series - and right now, to celebrate its re-release, you can have it delivered to your mailbox for free just by signing up for the (very friendly, totally non-spammy and feline-mischief filled) author newsletter! Just head over to Joshua's site.

"A wicked curse. A woman's quest to save her family. One fatal secret."

That's all for now folks! See you the first Sunday of every month for more!

    2. Thank you again for sharing my post, Roberta! I'm so glad that it resonated with you!

Also thanks for highlighting the post from Marie that highlights other books with mental health representation! I will definitely hop over to her blog to check it out, because I am trying to read more books with good mental health rep. I think it's super important to stay informed.

I'm glad Sourcebooks is raising awareness for Indie bookstores. It's really sad to see how small businesses have been struggling, and especially now like you said, Black owned bookstores need our support!

    4. Another great list.

I've been trying to support indie bookstores more during all this and in particular Black owned bookstores this past week. I'll have them featured in my post on Monday.

      1. I'm thinking of featuring posts related to BLM in my next TTY installment, so I'll most certainly link to your Monday post! I can't buy from shops that are not based in Italy, for the reasons you already know, but at least I can spread the news 🙂.

Welcome to Offbeat YA! I love hearing from you and always - I mean always - acknowledge your comments. This used to be a full democracy place, because anyone could comment, regardless of being a registered member of any community. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the Anonymous comment option, because I was getting too much spam that didn't get filtered. So, you’ll need to have a Google account (Gmail will suffice) in order to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, jump right in! Come on, you know you want to...😉 And be sure to leave a link!
BTW...I don't care if a post is a million months old - you comment, I respond. And you make my day 😃.
Note: this is an award/tag free blog. Sorry I can't accept nominations due to lack of time.
