Tooting Your Trumpet #11

Some people toot their own trumpet. I mean to toot yours. On the first Sunday of every month, I'm sharing your posts, your sites, anything interesting I stumble upon during my internet vagrancies. This month on TYT...
  • THINGS WE’VE BEEN DOING TO KEEP OURSELVES CALM AND OCCUPIED DURING ISOLATION (a list on Veronika, Ruzaika and Sabrina's blog Wordy and Whimsical)
  • LEAVING BOOKS UNRATED (a discussion post by Sabrina on the same blog)
  • THINGS I LEARNED WRITING MY FIRST BOOK – MY WRITING MISTAKES (AND SOME SUCCESSES!) (a tips post on Rivka's blog The Orangutan Librarian)
  • FANTASY WORLDS (a discussion post on Greg's blog Book Haven)

Things We’ve Been Doing to Keep Ourselves Calm and Occupied During Isolation (list) - by Veronika and Sabrina

Veronika and Sabrina list an impressive number of sites that can help anyone struggling with the Corona lockdown. As of this day, most of us will probably have gone back to a semi-normal life, but in case there's still someone somewhere who hasn't been released from the Corona confinement, that is a useful list! And anyway, you can still find a new favourite site/podcast in there 🙂.

Leaving Books Unrated (discussion post) - by Sabrina

Sabrina tells us about her struggle with giving stars to certain books, to the point of deciding to leave them unrated. Even if, like me, you rate each and every book you read, it may simply be because you still haven't encountered your match...😉

Things I Learned Writing My First Book – My Writing Mistakes (and Some Successes!) (tips post) - by Rivka

Rivka often writes about...writing. Her budding-author posts are always thoughtful (as any other post she writes, really) and helpful, and this one in particular can give a boost - and some tips - to anyone who's trying to put forth a story for the first (or maybe tenth) time....

Fantasy Worlds (discussion post) - by Greg

Greg ponders about loving fantasy (and speculative) lit. Some of us are more inclined to read straight-up fantasy, others (like me) prefer sci-fi...but what drives us to read about realities (or, well, unrealities) so different from ours?

That's all for now folks! See you the first Sunday of every month for more!

    1. I really loved Greg’s fantasy post! It really made me ponder why I choose the books o do. I also felt it was very relevant to today’s society, where most people would rather escape to a fantasy world.

    3. Leaving books unrated is an interesting idea. I think I used to do that when I first started blogging.

    5. I missed Greg's post about Fantasy Worlds, so thank you for sharing! I'm also curious about Sabrina's post and people not rating books, because it's something I've never thought about. I've always rated books! I guess there are people that don't want to be offensive to the author...hmm. I'll have to check out her post and see what it says! :)

      1. Well, Sabrina's post will surprise you, because she lists reasons for not rating books that aren't author-related 🙂. Like you, I rate each and every book, but what she says makes a lot of sense...and as for me, I'm conflicted about rating books that I've beta-read, though I strive for honesty, so I'll have to think about it...

    6. Thanks a bunch for highlighting our posts! :) I'm extremely happy people liked our quarantine list and found it helpful, because I know how difficult it is to stay at home. I've been home for 53 days now, and the lockdown is not over, at least not where I live. *sighs* Great post as always, Roberta. :)

      1. My pleasure! 😊

After nearly two months, our own measures have been lifted a bit, though it will be a long way to normal. But more of this under your comment to my quarantine post!

Welcome to Offbeat YA! I love hearing from you and always - I mean always - acknowledge your comments. This used to be a full democracy place, because anyone could comment, regardless of being a registered member of any community. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the Anonymous comment option, because I was getting too much spam that didn't get filtered. So, you’ll need to have a Google account (Gmail will suffice) in order to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, jump right in! Come on, you know you want to...😉 And be sure to leave a link!
BTW...I don't care if a post is a million months old - you comment, I respond. And you make my day 😃.
