Tooting Your Trumpet #9

Some people toot their own trumpet. I mean to toot yours. On the first Sunday of every month, I'm sharing your posts, your sites, anything interesting I stumble upon during my internet vagrancies. This month on TYT...
  • BOOK REVIEWS: WHY DON’T THEY GET MUCH ENGAGEMENT? (a discussion post on Gayathri's blog Elgee Writes)
  • SOME SITES FOR FREE OR LOW PRICE EBOOKS (a list on Lissa's blog The Memory of Rain)
  • GOING TO AN ABLE-BODIED SCHOOL (a post on Simone's blog The Wheelchair Teen)
  • ON WHETHER OR NOT TO SPEAK YOUR MIND ON THE INTERNET (a discussion post on Emily's blog Paperback Princess)

Book Reviews: Why Don’t They Get Much Engagement? (discussion post) - by Gayathri

Gayathri lists all the reasons why book reviews are the less popular posts (or at least the ones that get less engagement, comment-wise) but at the same time, encourages everyone not to give up on writing them, and on doing it their way. Then again, she also has a follow-up post on how to improve such engagement, with a few simple, useful tips.

Some Sites for Free or Low Price Ebooks (list) - by Lissa

Lissa shares 7 sites where you can get free or low-price digital books from different genres. Some I had heard of and some I hadn't, so I'm sure you'll be able to discover a few that are new to you as well.

Going to an Able-Bodied School (post) - by Simone

Pretty much every post by Simone is a must-read, both for disabled people (teens in particular, or/and people who are still new to such situations) and for able-bodied people like me, who learn something from them each and every time - especially empathy. So I'll cheat a little, and I'll also point you to her latest posts: Learning to Write with a Pen in My Mouth and How to Write with a Pen in Your Mouth (including a short demonstrative video). Truly inspiring and useful, if one isn't in the position of using their hands for the task.

On Whether or Not to Speak Your Mind on the Internet (discussion post) - by Emily

Emily shares an internet horror story and asks us: "Do you think it is worthwhile to feed the trolls? Or do you think we shouldn't waste our breath?". She also reflects on her own feelings about it of course, and on what there is to gain or lose by staying silent or speaking up, with her usual insight.

That's all for now folks! See you the first Sunday of every month for more!

Welcome to Offbeat YA! I love hearing from you and always - I mean always - acknowledge your comments. This used to be a full democracy place, because anyone could comment, regardless of being a registered member of any community. Unfortunately, I had to turn off the Anonymous comment option, because I was getting too much spam that didn't get filtered. So, you’ll need to have a Google account (Gmail will suffice) in order to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway, jump right in! Come on, you know you want to...😉 And be sure to leave a link!
BTW...I don't care if a post is a million months old - you comment, I respond. And you make my day 😃.
Note: this is an award/tag free blog. Sorry I can't accept nominations due to lack of time.
