Tell Me Something Tuesday Round-Up (March-April 2024)

Tell Me Something Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Heidi at Rainy Day Ramblings in order to discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging (and some slightly more personal matters throw in for good measure). After Heidi stopped blogging (apparently for good), five of us took over as hosts while providing new questions. The current team is composed of Berls at Because Reading Is Better Than Real LifeJen at That's What I'm Talking AboutKaren at For What It's WorthLinda at Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell and Roberta at Offbeat YA. This week's question is... This time I'm doing a round-up of the two latest months' worth of questions, because I hate how I've been M.I.A. when it comes to the meme!

March-April 2024 Round-Up
+ Question of the Day:
SOCIAL MEDIA: WHERE CAN YOU BE FOUND THESE DAYS?

  • March 5th: Describe yourself in three words (a question I submitted)
Rebellious, stubborn, fussy 😅.

  • March 12th: Which book genres do you tend to avoid?
Romance/erotica (just nope...), fantasy (though I can occasionally read some sci-fi/fantasy hybrid, and I do like portal fantasy), historical, retellings (with some selected exceptions, like when Seanan McGuire is involved 😉), spy thrillers, western lit, christian fiction, nonfiction, MG (which, I know, it's NOT a genre)...I can't think of anything else.

  • March 19th: Where would you like to travel? (a question I submitted...reworded in a better way 😂)
I would...just like to travel, which in my situation isn't feasible. But I'd prefer to do that in my country, because even if I can technically speak English, it's more like, I can write English LOL - so I wouldn't feel at ease if I couldn't speak Italian. But I would LOVE to see Stonehenge in the flesh (or, you know, stone 😂).

  • March 26th: Would you start a series if you knew it probably won't be finished?
It depends...if the premise really called to me, I guess I would, and I'd campaign for the final book LOL.

  • April 2nd: Are you fluent in more than one language? (a question I submitted...again, reworded in a better way ðŸ˜‚)
See above. I'm a Foreign Languages and Literatures graduate (English and Spanish). I've studied English since high school but rarely spoken it (the last time was in uni...). I took two years of Spanish, but I've forgotten most of it 😳.

  • April 9th: What have you been watching? Share your TV show or movie picks
Nothing new at the moment.

  • April 16th: What new-to-you authors have you enjoyed in the past 12 months?
Just mentioning the authors of my 5/4 star books...
Joshua David Bellin (Myriad), Hannah Fergesen (The Infinite Miles), Sam Beckbessinger & Dale Halvorsen (Girls of Little Hope), Sara Flannery Murphy (The Wonder State), Ann Christy (The Never-Ending End of the World), R.A. Sinn (A Second Chance for Yesterday), Clara Kumagai (Catfish Rolling), Michael Karolewski (The Soul Sector | The Prophet's Debt), Kiersten White (Mister Magic), Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovic (You're Breaking My Heart), Scott Alexander Howard (The Other Valley), Gwendolyn Kiste (The Haunting of Velkwood), Mallory Pearson (We Ate the Dark), Kelly Link (The Book of Love), Matteo L. Cerilli (Lockjaw).

  • April 23rd: TBR Update: How is your list coming along?
Back when I didn't get ARCs, I had a very limited TBR list. Now...*shudders* The problem is, I want to review every book I read in some capacity, even the ones I didn't get from the publishers, which slows down my reading with a vengeance (I'd probably have run out of new books to read if it weren't for that). Thankfully, I seem to have gotten my reviewing mojo back (or I finally psyched myself into finding it in order to be able to read all the books I'm salivating over 😅), so I hope to catch up a bit during the next months...

  • April 30th: Social Media: Where can you be found these days?
Still on Twitter (*sighs*), for lack of a better alternative. (Yeah, I refuse to call it X 😬. Sue me, EM). I mean, I'm on BlueSky too, but the place hasn't taken off yet, and for now, I'm not going out of my way in order to post and chat (I'm basically just copying my tweets on there LOL). Anyhow, I'm @offbeatya.bsky.social, if you want to be friends!

Well, that's it for now. Did you enjoy this post? Would you like to participate in the meme on a regular or semi-regular basis, and get emailed the prompt list? Just head over here and fill in Jen's form! (Of course, you can jump in anytime you like - you are under no obligation to actually do all the posts, or even most of them, just because you signed up, and you can remove yourself from the list at any time). And if you're interested in participating in a more casual manner, or only in commenting, here is the TMST prompt list for the month of May:

  • May 7th: Share some POC author/character recommendations you've recently enjoyed
  • May 14th: Do you like to garden? Share some photos!
  • May 21st: Worst character jobs: what are they and who has them?
  • May 28th: Which books are you looking forward to reading this summer? (June-August)

I'll only be back for the meme on May 28th, because I can't make the time to post consistently and/or I've got nothing for the questions above (garden? what's a garden? LOL). But I'll read your posts and comment!

Now tell me something...which is your favourite virtual hangout?

  1. Rebellious, stubborn, fussy - hey, that's me too but I'm probably more rebellious on my blog.

I also avoid romance/erotica. I think most of what I read is fantasy that may or may not pretends to be murder mysteries. I don't like spy thrillers either. Middle Grade? I used to read that category but somehow fell out.

I don't have an interest in the Stonehenge but I'm sure there must be something about it you love.

With book series getting ridiculously longer, I would prefer to read book series that are finished but yes, like you, it depends on the book.

I'm with you on twitter, I refuse to call it X also. I've seen many users who have not changed their twitter name/icon to the X on their blogs or perhaps they are just lazy? I think people should just not changed to the X at all so that maybe it will get changed back.

Favorite virtual hangout? Does blogland count? I don't even play those online games and I'm not on social media so I can't even name a place.

    Have a lovely day.

    1. It's nice that we have some character traits in common...I think I'm more rebellious in real life, though. I'm the kind of person who, if you try to convince them to do a certain thing, will do the complete opposite 😂.

Stonehenge gives me the thrills...I don't know why.

      "Blogland" definitely counts!

  2. I refuse to call it X either. *High Five* Your written English is so good, better than mine, but I understand it being hard to speak. My spoken German was great until my grandfather died. He was the only one who spoke to me in German. My dad and grandmother always answered in English. Seriously, aren't we all fussy?

LOL, thanks, but you're being too generous. You're an educated woman who used to be a teacher, after all!

The story about your grandfather is neat - he stayed faithful to his roots and shared them with you.

I'm EXTRA fussy, believe me 😂.

  3. I get the travel thing! I love visiting new places, but it stresses me out so much going to places where I know the language barrier will be STRONG. 😭 Your English is great, though! <3

I also refuse to call Twitter X lol. Followed you on there as well. :) I'm going to try to be more active on there if I can! :)

    1. I don't know about you, but I tend to be nervous in situations that I have little control over, so I need to be sure people can understand me and I can understand them at least! Thank you though!

I followed you too. Nice to meet you!

  4. It's so strange to me that you rarely speak English since that's what you write in here on your blog. When I think of you, I think of you speaking English. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad thing I just found it interesting.

I'm still on Twitter too and I'm never calling it X. What a dumb name.

    1. To be precise, I never get the chance to speak English - but I've always loved the language, and I either read books that don't get published in Italy or choose to read them in the original language because I want to savour them unfiltered, which is why I started to blog in English...

X is a dumb name indeed LOL. Plus I'd never agree to a name chosen by the man who ruined it...

  5. I'd love to see stonehenge!

I've forgotten most of my Spanish also.

    I hope you're well. I haven't blogged much but I', still here

    :)

      Let's go together 😉.

You studied (or learned) Spanish at some point? 😮

I noticed you weren't/aren't blogging much (BTW, I also noticed you have hardly progressed with your stories lately). I hope you've been busy or maybe just in need of a break, and you aren't experiencing any RL problems. If that's the case, I'm sending hugs!

    2. :)

I did! I took 2 years in high school. Have forgotten almost all of it!

Thank you! I am still around but have totally been slacking in the blogging department. I do want to revisit those stories and will hopefully soon...

  6. I love your 3 words lol I can see that.

I would like to travel more but without having to pack or travel lol I get so lazy about it. Just our 3 days away with the dogs last week was such a project! I'm fine traveling around the US though. There's so much to see and such variety.

I'm glad I don't do ARC's anymore. With my lack of reading and reviewing I would be soooo stressed. I had been pondering writing a review or two but I see you have your mojo back so need to step aside for now hahahaha

I like bluesky but nothing seems to happen there. I mostly just use IG now but I HATE, HATE, HATE threads and wish I never signed up. It' slinked to IG so I see posts from there whether I wat to or not. To delete one account is to delete both.

😈 🤣 I've always projected a honest image of myself then LOL.

Travelling with the dogs is probably more work than it would be if it were just you and Kevin. And I get being lazy about packing - but I'd do anything to be able to get around a bit.

"I had been pondering writing a review or two but I see you have your mojo back so need to step aside for now hahahaha"
      EXCUSES!!! 😜

I agree about BS...though in my case, it's not like I'm making a real effort to socialise...Also, it's still a bit harder to navigate than Twitter, and the same goes for finding your tribe on there. Wait, I though Threads and IG were separate things...I mean, yeah, you need to have an IG account to be on Threads, but I didn't know the two streams got mixed somehow???

  7. "reworded in a better way" ... lol! I hope I didn't mess up the intent. Sometimes I reword things because we have a couple suggestions that are similar. Sometimes I make it a bit easier to answer (for me!) Thanks for being so kind to me.

I'm excited to travel in Europe this fall. I don't speak any languages that English. I'm thinking of downloading an app to learn basic Italian since I'll be there for a about 2 weeks.

    1. LOL, no worries, you did great! If I recognised my own questions, it's a sign of a job well done 😉.

I think most Americans (or even Brits, for that matter) only speak English...I guess if you stay at an hotel, they should be able to communicate with you in your mother tongue, at least when it comes to the basics. Most eating places too, at least in the cities to which tourists tend to flock. Good luck! and have fun 🧳🌞. (P.S.: we DEMAND pics LOL).
