Introducing the Read By Feed Option!

Hey lovelies!
Did any of you notice that Google Friend Connect stopped working? or at least, it hasn't been working for some days now. If you try to join a blog, you get the annoying message below...

We're sorry...
We were unable to handle your request. Please try again or return a bit later.

Now, this sounds fishy - especially because the official GFC gadget is already gone from the list of those available for our layouts (so that new bloggers won't be able to add it to their pages), replaced with a third-part one. Regardless, the gadget already in place should work - shouldn't it? unless the Google folks are oh-so-quietly taking GFC away completely in order to force Google + on us...

Then again, someone reported that the GFC gadget is still working in some cases. Peggy @ The Pegster - Reads (scroll down her comment section) can still join blogs that way from her station at work. So I don't know what to think now. The usual Google malfunction? But most important - are they going to fix it for real?
Anyway, this unfortunate issue has finally prompted me to figure out how to install a Read By Feed gadget. Just scroll a little down my column (left of the blog) and you'll find it. Get the latest from my blog via Feedly, MyYahoo, SubBloglines, NetVibes and other readers/news aggregators! Easy and painless, I promise :).

APR. 5 UPDATE:
GFC is working again *phew*. But Feedburner stays of course!

  1. I noticed this too, so I just joined Bloglovin! I hope they fix this problem, because I understand GFC way better than Bloglovin, haha. :)

    1. They always assure us that the issues have been reported and will be fixed soon...except when they won't (e.g., the title for the Search Box gadget that has disappeared 2 or 3 weeks ago, and is still missing...).

  2. Well, I use Bloglovin now (that's how I follow you too ~.~) and even removed the GFC widget from my blog so this problem doesn't concer me but I'm not surprised. GFC just stopped being important when Google Reader went away.

    1. I only wish that the folks @ Google came clear about this. Of course, they can't simply take GFC away from our blogs, because we'd automatically lose all our GFC follower evidence...but they should tell us if the gadget is going to work again or not.

You know a funny thing...I'm not even on Bloglovin', not really - I mean, they feature my blog (like anybody else's), but I've never claimed it and never will, because (like G+) I don't like that they shove it down our throats. While I'm grateful and excited that you decided to follow me, and I understand that I can't force anyone to not use BL in order to do so, I encourage those interested in following me to either use the feed, email or Linky Followers option :). Having said this, thanks!

  3. I agree, they should.

Oh, I didn't know you disliked Bloglovin' that much (I quite like it) but I'll add you on Linky too :)

    1. There's still hope...maybe. I mean, no one has officially declared GFC dead...Go figure - it's taken a whole month for the Google folks to just fix the Search Box title missing from our blogs! So maybe it will take a couple this time LOL. Anyway, GFC still works for the updates...it's just that you can't use it for following (or unfollowing) new blogs...

Anyhow - email subscription? You know I love you, right? :D

    2. Haha, thanks. Blogger doesn't inform us for anything, so I wanted to make sure I get your posts. Usually I check my fave blogs, because I remember their titles. But it's better to receive emails for the latest posts, so I won't freak you and others out with how many times I check your blogs for updates -_- Stalking, level : professional, haha.

  5. I'm sad about GFC. I should put a feedburner widget on my blog.

  6. When I first started blogging I was so pleased with Blogger. Even when people started jumping ship to WordPress, I was resistant. Blogger is easy, uncomplicated and I had my loved Google Reader. But I kind of lost my shiz when they got rid of that, in fact that is why I switched to WordPress. I do use Bloglovin (yes, I know about your dislike of it, but I unfollowed you there even though I hate subscribing through emails, so I just have your site bookmarked), but it's not quite the same as Google Reader. The problem is that Google doesn't make money off things like the reader or GFC, so they don't care how much we love those features. I'm still waiting for someone to make a super kick ass reader that does everything I want it to do.

    1. The problem with readers is, most of them take the whole feed and publish it in their own frame, so that one can read all the post without actually going to the site where it was published...Which is making me mad, too. I've been experimenting with the Blogger feed options for a while, and ultimately decided to only publish the short version, so that one has to click on the post title in order to read the whole thing on the blog. But it's estetically unpleasant...the post just stops there, after 400 characters, without any "to read more click here" advice...I wish I could use the short feed option and the feed footer at the same time, but unfortunately, Blogger only gives you one or the other. Unless I find a code for that...
And...I'm hugging you right now. I'm getting my own bookmark! LOL. Seriously, I hope I'm not being a pain in the ass with this BL thing, and I understand email notifications can be annoying...
